What do you do when the “easy” solutions are done? You tackle the tougher ones.

We’ve now switched to recycled plastic in most components, and we’ve worked hard to minimize the use of metals and other materials. So what’s the next big challenge?

One of the most important things we can improve is extending the lifespan of existing products. If we can double a product’s life, we essentially cut its climate impact in half.

This means we need to find ways to get more people to take advantage of our offer to refurbish their worn Mousetrapper. We inspect it, replace broken parts, and recycle whatever can’t be reused. You get back a Mousetrapper that feels like new. In industry terms, this is called refurbishing.

Refurbishing – how hard can it be?
It might sound simple: just send it to us and get a “like-new” Mousetrapper in return. But the main challenge isn’t the refurbishment process itself – we already do that and are constantly refining it. The biggest challenge lies in handling all the logistics around it. Our products are sold through distributors who sell to resellers, who in turn sell to end customers. In the future, it would be ideal to have a deposit return system for electronics – much like the one used for bottles and cans in grocery stores. But until that exists, we need to find other solutions.

New refurbishing task force
At our latest internal sustainability day, this was the big topic. We realize it’s extremely complex, and we need a clear plan for how to get more people in the chain involved. That’s why we’ve now formed an internal refurbishing group with members from across the company, who have begun digging into the issue. We’re excited to see what will come out of this work. You’ll be hearing more about it soon. For us, it’s a key initiative – one that has a major impact on our climate footprint.
