FAQ Alpha

Here you can find the answers to frequently asked questions about Alpha.

+ The pointer on the screen doesn’t follow the movements of the control pad, or lags behind.

This is probably due to dust or debris in the Mousetrapper near the sensors. In most cases, you can easily fix this yourself.

All you need is a can of compressed air (available from most office supply and electronics stores). Follow these steps:

  • Disconnect the Mousetrapper from the computer.
  • Stand it on edge.
  • Press and hold the control pad in. Blow the compressed air into the gap that this creates.
  • Wait about 5 minutes to make sure that any condensation that has occurred evaporates.
  • Then connect the Mousetrapper again and work as usual to see if the problem is gone.

+ Mousetrapper Alpha is not pairing with my computer.

First, plug it in with the cable, then visit: http://mtkeys.mousetrapper.com/. Once the app starts, if the icon is flashing, click on Update Firmware icon . Next, click on the Reset to default icon  and then click Save  .

If it does not start, then check whether your computer’s Bluetooth driver has been updated.

Go to your computer’s Control Panel and remove the device under “Bluetooth & other devices”.

Turn Bluetooth off and then back on on your Mousetrapper (switch on the bottom). Try adding the device again. Once it pairs with your PC, you will be prompted to enter a code using your Mousetrapper Alpha keyboard. Press “Enter” after entering the code.

Connect Alpha to a new computer
Alpha can be connected to multiple computers/devices, but only one per channel. If you want to connect your Alpha to a new computer/device on a channel that is already in use, the existing connection must be deleted. You can do this by pressing the Fn and Del keys simultaneously for a few seconds until the device’s LED briefly flickers white. After that, it switches to blinking blue, and then you can connect the computer/device by adding a new device in your computer/device’s Bluetooth settings.

If you want to connect the new computer/device to a different channel, you choose the channel by pressing Fn and either F1/Ch1 or F2/Ch2 simultaneously for the respective channel. If Alpha’s LED starts blinking blue, you can select it from your device’s Bluetooth menu to add it. If it does not start blinking blue, another device is connected, and you will need to remove the connection according to the paragraph above.

You then switch between channels 1 and 2, and their connected devices, by pressing Fn and F1/Ch.1 or Fn and Ch.2

+ I can’t use the mousetrapper’s edge scroll.

Alpha have a scroll feature on the right edge of the control pad. To activate scrolling:

  • With the control pad standing still, place a finger along the right-hand edge of it, where an infrared beam shines top-to-bottom. Scroll mode starts when you break the beam.
  • Scroll as desired, then lift your finger. Scrolling deactivates after about 1 second.
  • single movement, place it next to the edge of the plastic frame, then slide the control pad up or down.)

It can take a bit of time to get used to the technique if you haven’t worked with it before, and if the user wants different scrolling methods, there are also scroll buttons.

See the instructions for button configuration on your model.

+ The mousetrapper does not react when plugged into the computer.

This is probably due to dust or debris in the Mousetrapper near the sensors. In most cases, you can easily fix this yourself.

+ Some of the mousetrapper buttons seem to have no function.

+ My battery won’t charge anymore or has expanded.

We use the type of battery found in most mobile telephones today. The durability varies depending on usage. The battery has a 6-month warranty.

If the battery has expanded so the battery compartment cover can no longer be closed easily, the battery should be disconnected immediately and handed in for recycling.Do not try to force the cover on again if the battery doesn’t fit (see image). Of course, it is possible to work with the battery disconnected by using the supplied USB cable.

Replacing the battery
New batteries can be purchased from most Mousetrapper resellers and directly from us.
You can easily replace the battery in Mousetrapper Prime yourself as it sits under a battery compartment cover that is easy to open without tools.

+ What does a lit or flashing LED light signify?

The LED flashes or lights up in different colors to signal various specific actions.

RED – flashing = Battery needs to be charged (connect cable and charge till steady green LED)

GREEN – flashing = Charging the battery

GREEN – steady light = Battery fully charged

BLUE – flashing = Bluetooth has been turned on and the mouse is visible to your computer.

PINK – flashing = Switching between PC and Mac modes.

Flashes alternately red and green – A software update has failed. Run the update from MTKeys again.

+ I would like to reconfigure Mousetrapper Alpha for a Mac.

Hold down the 2 lower large buttons and the trackpad for about 4 sec. LED flashes pink when switched to Mac.

If you want to set it back to PC mode, do the same as above and the LED confirms with pink flashing lights.

+ I would like to set my own button functions for the programmable buttons.
